Modern crafts, a product of artist's intense creative fever kept ablaze through dark and turbulent times, are rich with Korea's
national spirit. It is also an art form that has the closest relationship with Korean people's daily lives. Crafts were primarily
made to serve practical purposes, but, with time and changes in society and people's awareness, they were also created to
satisfy the need for aesthetic beauty. This exhibition traces footsteps of our lives and the history of Korea's modern craft from
the beginning through modern times.

KANG CHANG-WON(1906-1977) has created utensils among which this work is his typical couple of two vases.
It looks modern by complete ending of the texture in terms of techniques. Dark color in the inside of the vase and purple color in the outside are met in the mouth of it. The comparison of these colors is beautiful.

Kwon Soon-hyung(1929- ) has adopted qualities of functional objects into artistic crafts and has expanded his art world. Through adoption his skills in dealing with fire he has expressed colors and lines in abstractive way and this tendency was originated from abstractive influence in fine arts since the 1950's.
Such abstractive formal constituents of Kwon reflected his manner which sought for the harmony between his craft piece and the thing that would be contained in the piece. In this work, therefore, he highlighted his own painterly attributes rather than the functional aspect of a vase.

This work by PARK, Ad-Jong(1959- ) is about a horn which is reversed and hanging while being locked in stiff and geometric cage. And the horn is coiled with plastic hose and wool yarn.
